In December 2025, the well-known Ukrainian travel filmmaker and blogger Anton Ptushkin released his large-scale documentary about Antarctica. In this captivating work, he showcased not only the magical nature of the icy continent, icebergs, and whales, but also behind-the-scenes life of the 30th and 29th Ukrainian Antarctic Expeditions at the Akademik Vernadsky station.
For our team, this episode became special for another reason — during the station tour, medical equipment manufactured by DX-SYSTEMS was captured on camera.

Medicine in conditions of isolation
Life of polar explorers requires maximum autonomy. As Anton mentions in his video, for about nine months a year the station is completely cut off from the outside world by ice. In such conditions, the highest responsibility falls on the expedition doctor and the equipment of the medical office.
Starting from [39:38], the author introduces viewers to Ivanka, the doctor of the 29th expedition, and provides an overview of the station’s medical unit. A doctor at Vernadsky station is a highly versatile specialist who must be prepared for any challenge — from dentistry and neurology to complex surgical procedures.
It is in this segment, among the equipment used to save lives and monitor the team’s health, that our electroencephalograph can be seen.
Why is EEG critically important in Antarctica?
Working at the station is not only about the romance of the northern lights. It involves polar nights (when daylight lasts only 3 hours), confined space, lack of privacy, storm winds, and immense psychological stress. All of this places a significant burden on the human nervous system.
Having a modern EEG diagnostic system allows the station doctor to:
- Objectively assess the functional state of the brain;
- Detect early signs of stress, fatigue, or sleep disorders;
- Conduct highly accurate neurological examinations without the need for evacuation to the mainland.
Tested in the harshest conditions
The fact that our systems operate at the Akademik Vernadsky station is the best proof of their reliability. Our equipment is designed to meet the highest quality standards and to function seamlessly even where the nearest service center is 15,000 kilometers away.
WE ARE PROUD THAT UKRAINIAN MEDICAL EQUIPMENT HELPS SUPPORT THE HEALTH OF OUR SCIENTISTS AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD!
